RA NA Public Relations and Media Department informs that on August 23 RA NA Vice-President Eduard Sharmazanov had a meeting with the members of the National Union of the Yezidis. The violence against Yezidis in the northern Iraq and current situation have been discussed during the meeting.
Vice-President of the National Assembly noted the unacceptability in the 21st century of mass violence against the Yezidi population in the northern Iraq because of national and religious intolerance . Eduard Sharmazanov assured that Armenia is ready to support and assist the friendly Yezidi people in its capabilities.
Aziz Tamoyan, president of the National Union of the Yezidis, presented the current situation and expressed his gratefulness to the RA authorities for the assistance. He noted that Yezidi community expects the assistance of the Republic of Armenia in raising the issue in international bodies.
RA NA Vice-President Eduard Sharmazanov mentioned the importance of raising the issue of tragic events in various international bodies – expressing readiness to raise the issue also on parliamentary platforms.
It has been agreed to regularly meet and discuss the problems in the future as well.
