The third episode brought against Vahagn Vermishyan, former chairman of the RA Urban Development Committee, relates to alleged bribe-taking. His defender Alexander Kochubaev told Iravaban.net that it’s incomprehensible how concrete and European windows can be qualified as subjects of bribery.
According to the lawyer, Vahagn Vermishyan called Gagik Galstyan and said that he needed high-quality cement “with mandatory payment,” after which the cement was delivered.
From their phone conversation recordings, it becomes clear that Vermishyan says, “Gagik, I ask you to calculate with mandatory payment, tell me the number, I need good quality cement.”
“When they faced an insurmountable obstacle, they thought about what could be put under it, and they put that Vahagn Vermishyan should direct state orders towards Gagik Galstyan and Vazgen Poghosyan in exchange for these European windows, and this is in the case when the construction companies led by these 2 individuals are the most leading companies in Armenia.
We have entered a place where we are trying to find jurisprudence, law, and trial, where it doesn’t exist, there is simply an issue of 8 years imprisonment,” the defender summarizes his position regarding this episode.
During court sessions, Alexander Kochubaev has also made several observations regarding the aforementioned episode, emphasizing that the conversation between Poghosyan and Galstyan cannot in any way substantiate Vahagn Vermishyan’s intent to receive a bribe.
Vahagn Vermishyan has not pleaded guilty to all episodes of the charges brought against him and has demanded acquittal.
