New Representatives of the Defendant were involved in Sedrak Kocharyan’s Case

On 17 July, the Anti-Corruption Civil Court held a hearing, in the case on the confiscation of assets and funds of allegedly illicit origin of Sedrak Kocharyan, the eldest son of 2nd President of the RA Robert Kocharyan, and his wife, Zaruhi Badalyan. udge Karapet Badalyan presided over the court hearing.

According to Iravaban.net, at the beginning of the session, the issue of video recording and taking photos was discussed. The representatives of the respondent party objected to the video recording of the session in general, but the court emphasized that they could object only to their video recording, and in general the video recording of the session is allowed, so the motion was granted.

Aram Vardevanyan, the representative of the responding party, made a motion, stating that it was necessary to get acquainted with the case materials. He said that in June, the court had made a decision regarding the involvement of a third party, and the third parties needed time to get involved in the specified period.

He made a motion to provide time to familiarize with the case materials and express position, and also stated that it is for the first time that they were engaged in the cases examined in the anti-corruption civil court.

Other representatives of the responding party also joined the petition; they noted that the volumes of materials in these cases were large.

Armen Feroyan also emphasized that it was necessary to provide such a period so that the parties could get acquainted with the materials fully, and there were no occasions for unnecessary delays in the court session.

Prosecutor Gevorg Kocharyan had no objections to the petition.

Referring to the issue of protection of monetary and financial information, lawyer Artur Hovhannisyan said that if the Prosecutor’s Office, when presenting the basis of the lawsuit, would make a subject of discussion the financial flows that “Target Group” CJSC involved in its financial activities (loans, credits, etc) as a commercial means, and requested that a partially closed court session be held before the presentation, and also to present the mentioned issues in the format of closed session.

The court, having heard the positions of the parties regarding the petition presented by lawyer Aram Vardevanyan, decided to satisfy it.

The session was postponed, the next court session will be held on 6 September.
