The Demand for Data Scientists is Growing Significantly: The Ceremony of Announcing the Educational Program in the Specialty “Data Science” was held at NPUA

On 3 May, the ceremony of announcing the educational program providing a bachelor’s degree in “Data Science” was held at the National Polytechnic University of Armenia,.

During the ceremony, Gor Vardanyan, the Rector of  NPUA, made a speech. He noted that for the first time for the 2024-2025 academic year, the Polytechnic University will announce admission to the “Data Science” professional educational program..

“Let’s record that during the 91 years of our activity, combining technological and natural science education, we have come to the point that the university is already ready to organize and host professional education in the field of data science, and it is very important that we will also have the opportunity at today’s event to talk about data science, about perspectives. But more importantly, it is our students and prospective applicants who are present at this discussion and at this event, which can become familiar with the curriculum, private sector events and technology transitions, or during these transitions, through our private sector representatives and the program director, as well as with problem that data science solve?

The educational program and the process of organization of studies were presented by the head of the educational program, founder of “AAS DEVEL” LLC Suren Edilyan. According to him, the demand for data scientists is growing significantly. “Combining the basic, foundational knowledge of mathematics and programming from our university, which today provides a large number of mostly successful programmers in our Republic, we started with a general mathematics blog. Data science as such is always integrated into fields. Those fields can be medicine, biology, engineering, and various fields, including programming itself.”

He added that future students will need to acquire some basic knowledge from these fields, natural sciences. According to Edilyan, a beginner in any science should learn how to learn, and they will try to convey this to the students.

A panel discussion was also organized, during which they talked about thematic issues.
