Today, on 7 April, Shurishkan Holy Gospel was taken from Mesrob Mashtots Matenadaran to St. Gevork Church of Mughni of Aragatsotn Diocese.
Every year on the Feast of New Sunday, the Gospel is brought to the church, believers from different corners of Armenia and the world come to see the Gospel and fulfill their vow.
The Gospel of Shurishkan was written in the village of Aspisnak in the Kayberun province of Vaspurakan in 1498. During the Perso-Turkish War of 1603-1604, as a result of the deportation of about 500 thousand Armenians initiated by Shah Abbas, the 5th king of the Safavid Empire, the Gospel appeared in the village of Shurishkan in the province of Periya in Persia, where the name comes from. The order to duplicate the Gospel was given by Prince Turvanta, and priest Barsegh did it. People believe that Shurishkan Gospel fulfills their cherished desires that is why they also call the gospel a miracle working. Since 2002, the Gospel is being taken from Matenadaran and accompanied by believers is taken to St. Gevorg Church,
Reverend Yeghishe Barseghyan, pastor of the Holy Gevorg Church in Mughni of Aragatsotn Diocese, told Iravaban.net that in addition to Christians, also Muslims testify to the miracles of the Gospel. “There are many testimonies of miracles about the Gospel. Sick Iranian children were brought before the Gospel and they were healed. There are even decrees regarding the Gospel, which were written by Persian khans, so that no one would burn or harm this gospel,” he said.
The number of believers is increasing every year. Hearing about the miracles associated with the name of the Gospel, people come to personally see and receive communion. Mass was celebrated in St. Gevorg church today.
One of the present believers told us in a conversation that he has been waiting for the Day of the New Sunday many years. It contributed to the fact that his daughter, who was told by doctors that she would not have children, already has 4 children.
