For the First Time, a Sentenced Person has been transferred from Iran to Armenia to serve his Sentence in Armenia

By the decision of the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, for the first time, a citizen of the Republic of Armenia was transferred from the Islamic Republic of Iran to serve the rest of his sentence in the Republic of Armenia. The RA Ministry of Justice reported.

It should be noted that the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran cooperate in the field of mutual legal assistance within the framework of the “Transfer of Sentenced Persons” Agreement. The agreement provides an opportunity to transfer persons who have committed a crime in the territory of one of the states and have been sentenced to imprisonment, to the country of their citizenship, in order to serve the remainder of the sentence.

The Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia is the central body for the transfer of sentenced persons.

It should also be noted that several dozen sentenced persons have been transferred from RA to Iran to their country of citizenship, but no citizen of RA has been transferred from the Islamic Republic of Iran, so despite the objective reasons, the agreement between the two countries was only unilateral.
