We burned my Husband’s Medal so that the Turks would not see it: Artsakh woman tells

64-year-old Zoya Ghazaryan is forcibly displaced from Martuni region. She told in the framework of “Artsakh: Armenian Genocide 2023. Stories of Survivors” documentary project of Iravaban.net, that after the attack of Azerbaijan on Artsakh, she and her family slept in the car for 7 days. On the way to Armenia, Azerbaijanis told them to leave.

Before leaving Artsakh, Mrs. Zoya spent the night at her brother’s house in Stepanaker, and her husband stayed in the car, they could not find fuel. Currently, the woman is in Artashat, she wants to stay here. The son is looking for a house, but he cannot find it.

“We took a few clothes, a few blankets, and a rug from Artsakh. We left chickens, rabbits, the garden, we didn’t harvest the grapes. Many have reaped, what is the use? They gathered it, filled the “barrels”, and left. My neighbor had so many “barrels “…” Mrs. Zoya says.

She also remembers that her husband was given a medal for participating in the first Artsakh war, which they had to burn. “If they saw it (the Azerbaijanis-ed.), they could damage us.”
