We were waiting for an official to come and give us hope, but no one came. A soldier came and said that if we survived this night, everything will be fine. This was such an extreme situation that we thought it was the end. Marianna Safaryan, forcibly displaced from Artsakh, tells in a conversation with Iravaban.net, .
“We woke up in the morning, and we were told that we have to evacuate, then they said that Azerbaijan does not allow anyone to leave. It was a mess. There was no internet, no electricity. I came out of the basement alone to get in touch with my father to find out if everything is normal. Then we were told that whoever wants to leave may leave by their cars,” Marianna tells.
According to her, they moved for two hours, and then stayed in the same place for eight hours, having to sleep in the car.
“The last blow was the explosion in Stepanakert. It was terrible so people died and there is no trace. Our godson is also among the missing and we still have no news at all,” Marianna says.
She remembers with a smile her earlier words that ‘even if the roads to Artsakh are opened, they will remain in Artsakh anyway’.
“We are traitors. Coming out was not a matter of principle, it was already a matter of this child. We endured so much; we went through everything, hungry, anxious and stressed. We passed through so many things and got out,” Marianna says.
