On 3 July, the Supreme Judicial Council published the decision regarding the disciplinary action against Davit Harutyunyan, judge of the criminal court of the first instance of general jurisdiction of Yerevan city.

“The Supreme Judicial Council, having examined the petition of Levon Balyan, who is performing the duties of the Minister of Justice, decided to satisfy the claim on subjecting Davit Harutyunyan, the judge of the criminal court of the first instance of the city of Yerevan to disciplinary responsibility.

To suspend the powers of Davit Harutyunyan, Judge of the criminal court of the first instance of the city of Yerevan on the basis of a significant disciplinary violation. 

The decision comes into force from the moment of its publication and is final,” Karen Andreasyan said.

Judge Davit Harutyunyan announced in a conversation with journalists that there was nothing unexpected for him from the very first day. “Any other, objective expectation from Karen Andreasyan was not possible. Naturally, the objective expectations will be fulfilled in the European Court of Human Rights, in other platforms and procedures. Nothing unexpected happened,” Harutyunyan said.

He noted that no attempt was made to “imitate” that something is being done by law for the publication of the decision.

“At first, there was not even a representative; and not even a party in the court, not speaking about a judge. Look, it is written the “Supreme Judicial Council” here, this is just a sign. Wearing that robe, wearing the robe or signing a decree does not make a person a judge,” Davit Harutyunyan said.

According to him, if a person works as a judge, he should continue to work as a judge until the last moment, and the realization of rights, the fulfillment of duties, regardless of what threats there are, should not be an obstacle. “First of all, the SJC should have acted in this way. The SJC should serve as an example for judges, but just the opposite happens,” he said.

Let’s remind that the previous session during the examination of the petition did not go smoothly either.
