Vova Arzumanyan, member of Board of the Yerevan State Institute of Theater and Cinematography, Chairman of the Student’s Scientific, Creative Society, issued a statement in which he referred to the banning of the performance based on the work “Orphanage“.
“Dear students of the studio of People’s Artist of the Republic of Armenia, professor of the National Academy of Sciences Nikolay Tsaturyan, my dear friends,
Today, I learned about the strike being prepared. The reason is the recently discussed “Orphanage” performance, which I myself did not watch due to poor health. Having witnessed your tireless preparatory work, rehearsals, and fulfillment of your duties, I cannot but mention your dedicated work, for which I thank you once again.
The student’s work should be appreciated.
Dear friends, today I do not want to discuss the literary work that is the basis of the presentation. Even more, I do not want to discuss the already discussed opinions and statements. It is commendable that you played your performance two times in front of a full hall. You will play many more performances and receive the sympathy and applause of the audience.
My wish is that you never lose your principle type.
Your proposal regarding the play “Orphanage” to change that phrase and play the performance again was rejected, which is unreasonable and surprising to me. This is a creative debate, which should find its urgent solution and not disrupt the healthy and harmonious educational atmosphere.
It is my great wish that you never break down and continue the creative path you have chosen, which is full of obstacles, countless difficulties, as well as pleasant moments.
Please choose the path of peaceful and constructive dialogue and do not disrupt the educational process.
Peace to all of us…”
