As a result of long-term work with the British Council, an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Center was opened today, on 24 February, at the National Polytechnic University of Armenia (NPUA). It consists of 2 examination rooms with 24 and 16 computers and one registration room.
According to the Rector of the University, Gor Vardanyan, the examination center creates a new opportunity for the University in terms of improving and deepening the knowledge of the English language.
“At the same time, we can record that this is a good cooperation to deepen our partnership with the British Council and create possible new ways of cooperation. I have to emphasize one important fact. Today, professional progress in the field of high technologies is related to English skills, and the National Polytechnic University of Armenia in its work and strategy attaches a special role and importance to the development of English language skills,” he said.

“I think that the fact that the Polytechnic opens similar rooms provides a similar experience, is essentially an achievement for the University and for the students. We are grateful to the British Government, with whom we have implemented many projects in Armenia since 2018. We are also grateful to Team Telecom for their support,” Avinyan said.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Armenia John Gallagher thanked the Rector of the University, the General Director of Team Telecom Armenia and the British Council for the work done.
“The UK is extremely proud of our education system which we feel is rightly considered one of the best in the world. And we also are well aware that English is a common language of many academic fields, including science and technology. So with this opening today we are really pleased to support Armenian students have access to the UK education system. We feel this is a really great way of supporting students that want to develop their skills and to do that and to take advantage of the UK educational system. And we feel that the IELTS testing system that is really good way of supporting students gain the qualification they need, to gain access to a UK education, and also gain a benefit the education will bring in sense of job opportunity and personal development,” Ambassador Gallagher said.
Addeh Hovassapian, Country Director of the Armenian Branch of the British Council, mentioned in his speech that during the past 20 years, the Council has done everything in the field of teaching English language in Armenia.
“IELTS is one of the most widely used English language proficiency tests in the world. It is trusted and accepted in 11 thousand structures of the world. We believe that IELTS also opens doors to leading educational institutions in the world,” Hovassapian said.
According to Hayk Yesayan, General Director of Team Telecom Armenia, knowing English is a necessary but not sufficient condition for getting an education and development.
“I am sure that this cooperation is a small door for polytechnic students to have access to knowledge. We all speak Armenian, but we need to know 2-3 more languages to move forward. Significant scientific works on the Internet are in English. This is a good opportunity for 8,000 students here,” Hayk Yesayan said.
