Today, on 26 January, the Supreme Judicial Council published the decision regarding the petitions of the Minister of Justice Grigor Minasyan to subject Judge Suren Antonyan of the Court of Cassation to disciplinary responsibility.
According to the decision of the Council, the powers of the judge were terminated on the basis of a significant disciplinary violation.
“The Council considers it necessary to clarify that the basis for making the decision was the decision of the ECHR, which recorded the violations of the principles of legal certainty, the finality of judicial acts, as well as the fundamental rights of the citizen,” the Chairman of the SJC, Karen Andreasyan said.
As it is already known, the disciplinary proceedings against Judge Suren Antonyan were initiated on the basis of the 2015 ECtHR judgment in the “Amirkhanyan v. Armenia” case, according to which the Court of Cassation, by accepting the appeal submitted for the second time, violated the “res judicata” principle.
