On 19 January, at around 01:30, a fire broke out in the shelter of the engineer sapper squad of the N military unit of the RA Ministry of Defense located in the territory of the Azat village of the Gegharkunik marz under circumstances that have yet to be determined.

Aram Torosyan, Press Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia reported.

“Although fire extinguishing works were carried out at the scene of the incident, there are casualties and injuries as a result of the fire: data is being verified.

According to preliminary data, 15 servicemen died as a result of the fire that broke out in the shelter of the engineer sniper squad of the N military unit of the Ministry of Defense, and the condition of 3 servicemen is assessed as serious.

The Ministry of Defense will issue an additional message,” he said.
