The Legendary Weightlifter Rafael Chmshkyan has passed away

The legendary weightlifter, Olympic champion Rafael Chmshkyan has passed away at the age of 93,.

Rafael Chmshkyan was born in Tbilisi and is the first Olympic champion of Georgia. Rafael Chmshkyan won the Olympic gold medal in 1952 in Helsinki, he is also a five-time USSR, two-time world champion, 6-time European champion, and 11-time world record holder.

Rafael Chmshkyan also greatly contributed to the strengthening of friendship between the Armenian and Georgian peoples.

The RA Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports expresses its support to the family members, relatives and sports community of the legendary sportsman.
