Armenia highly appreciates the position of the French and US ambassadors who rejected the invitation of the Azerbaijani government to visit Shushi.

Vahan Hunanyan, RA MFA Spokesperson said in response to the questions of Armenpress News Agency.

Question: Recently, a conference was held in Shushi with the participation of foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations accredited in Azerbaijan. What would you comment on in this regard?

Answer: We reiterate our position regarding the inadmissibility of unilateral visits to the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. We are convinced that the population of Nagorno-Karabakh should be involved in the programs of international cooperation and support.

At the same time, we highly appreciate the position of those countries which, having a deep understanding of the conflict, refused to participate in such unilateral action.

During the conference held in Shushi on 27 August, which was attended by members of diplomatic missions accredited in Azerbaijan, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev stated that the ambassadors of France and the United States to Azerbaijan ignored the invitation of the Azerbaijani government to visit Shushi. The assistant of the President of Azerbaijan described this step of France and the USA as “disrespectful attitude towards the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan”, adding that according to the American and French parties, the conflict is not over yet.
