A warehouse for fireworks materials exploded in the Surmalu market.  Levon Sardaryan, the Press Secretary of the Mayor of Yerevan reported.

“Specialists and rescuers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications are on the spot and are trying to get the injured out of the debris. There is no clear information about the victims yet,” he said.

Notably, on 14 August, at 1:23 p.m., the National Center for Crisis Management received an alertthat an explosion had occurred in the “Surmalu” shopping center.

Six combat units from the fire-rescue squads of the rescue department of Yerevan city of MES, an operative of the National Crisis Management Center, the rescue department of the special purpose rescue operations implementation center of the Rescue Forces Department, and the department of organization of firefighting and rescue operations went to the scene of the fire with the “Number 2” call of the severity of the fire, as well as duty groups and the duty psychologist of the Department of Psychological Support.

According to preliminary data, there was an explosion and a fire, there are victims.

“Number 3” call of fire complexity was announced. Four more combat units from the fire-rescue squads of the rescue department of Yerevan city of MES went to the scene of the incident.
