If there is a day when I don’t call, know that I’m gone: Armen Ayvazyan died helping a wounded comrade-in-arms

Armen Ayvazyan, who died in the 44-day Artsakh war, was a contract soldier.

His wife, Gayane Aleksanyan, who is now raising the two children alone, says that her husband regularly went to work out of the country. When their son was born, and came and started sevice in the RA Armed Forces.

“Everything was fine before the war, but he wanted to retire, he was hesitant. When the war began, they were taken down from the posts, but he did not tell us that they were going to take him to Artsakh. He said they were goimg to Lachin.

Armen Ayvazyan fought in the Jrakan section.

“I told Armen that if there is an opportunity to escape, you also run. He said, ‘there are many who run away, the one who decides to escape runs away.’ I said whenever you have an opportunity please call. He said, “If there is a day when I don’t call, know that I’m gone,” Gayane remembers.

According to her, there was an order to retreated, and her husband, with some friends, hurried to help his wounded comrade-in-arms, but they did not return.
