The Government will take steps to set the minimum wage at 85,000 AMD by 2026. Lawyer Iravaban.net reports that the draft of the NA “Armenia” Faction was included in the agenda of the executive sittings, which proposed to set the minimum salary at 100 thousand AMD instead of 68 thousand. The Government proposes to leave the current article of the draft under discussion unchanged.
“In other words, the increase in the minimum monthly wage must necessarily be accompanied by appropriate economic opportunities as a basis for financing additional expenditures, while in this case it is not clear what changes in macroeconomic indicators were the bases for the initiative in question.
If the draft is adopted, the minimum wage in Armenia will be about 50% of the average wage, which, we think, is quite high among the low-skilled representatives of the youth and the public. This is evidenced by the results of a joint analysis of the ILO, the OECD, the IMF and the WB, according to which the optimal amount of the minimum wage should be in the range of 25-35% of the average wage, “the Government said in a statement.
The draft is included in the agenda of the Government sittings in “unreported” issues.
