The CSTO peacekeeping units from Armenia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, have left Almaty and moved to their permanent bases. TASS correspondent at the scene reported today, 14 January.
It is mentioned that the Armenian subdivisions loaded their vehicles on three Il-76 military transport planes of the Russian Air and Space Forces and left Almaty airport together with the crew.
It should be noted that on 7 January, the Ministry of Defense informed.
“Based on the decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council to send CSTO peacekeepers to the Republic of Kazakhstan for a limited period of time in accordance with Article 4 of the CSTO Collective Security Treaty Organization, the RA Armed Forces were sent to the Republic of Kazakhstan a peacekeeping unit (number of 100 servicemen) as part of the CSTO peacekeeping force.”
It should be reminded that the protest actions in Kazakhstan started in the first days of 2022, in the town of Janaoze and Aktau Mangistau region (south-west of the country), where residents rallied against high fuel prices. Two days later, riots broke out in Almaty (east), the republic’s former capital and the largest city.
In response, the authorities declared a state of emergency throughout the country until 19 January and launched an anti-terrorist operation.
