If the opposition factions do not nominate a candidate for Deputy Chairman of the Commission within five days, the government will do it

The NA Standing Committee on Defense and Security convened a special sitting again on the issue of electing the Deputy Chairman of the Committee.

The Chairman of the Committee Andranik Kocharyan announced that last week the “Armenia” Faction did not nominate a candidate for the Deputy Chairman of the Committee.

“According to Article 138 of the Constitutional Law “Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly”, ‘The right to nominate for the next office shall be reserved for a faction having a higher coefficient than the other factions,’ that is, to the “Civil Contract” Faction.

The ruling faction is already entitled to nominate a candidate. The “Civil Contract” has not nominated a candidate, it speaks about the fact that our faction does not want to immediately take the vacant position available to the opposition. We expect that during this week the “Armenia” Faction will try to reach a consensus with the ruling faction, they will present us possible options. Otherwise, the rule of law provides clear legal solutions; in that case, the ruling faction will decide who can be the candidate for Deputy Chairman of the Commission,” Kocharyan said.

Opposition factions must nominate another candidate within five days. It should be noted that none of them was present at the sitting.

It should be reminded that the “Armenia” Faction has nominated Arthur Ghazinyan 14 times, but the parliamentary majority does not want to elect him.
