On 29 November, a message was published on the official website of the RA President that Armen Sargsyan had met with a group of future journalists. This message is manipulative because a fact has been filtered in it.
“The President of the Republic Armen Sargsyan met with a group of students, participants of the project “EU Media Facility Armenia – building sustainable and professional media” which is implemented with the support of the European Union and the members of the team of professionals working with them. The program is implemented by FactorTV in partnership with BBC Media Action and Deutsche Welle Akademie,” the statement read.
Meanwhile, the announcement of Deutsche Welle Akademie contains other information about the co-sponsors, which is not mentioned in the message published on the official website of the RA President.
The announcement of the Academy states:
We are happy to announce that we started a new project in Armenia!
Together with our partners BBC Media Action, Open Society Foundations – Armenia, Hetq, Factor TV and through the support of European Union in Armenia and Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) we started the project “EU Media Facility Armenia – building sustainable and professional media”.
Apparently, the Presidential message did not mention Open Society Foundations-Armenia (known to the public as the George Soros Foundation).
It is noteworthy that some fact-checking platforms, showing a selective approach, did not address this reality.
