Gyumri Council of Elders elected Vardges Samsonyan Head of the Community at today’s sitting. He was nominated by the “Balasanyan’ Alliance. 24 members of the Council of Elders voted for Samsonyan and 8 against.

The “Civil Contract” Faction had announced that it would not nominate a candidate, but would vote for Vardges Samsonyan. It should be noted that the following forces are included in the composition of Gyumri Council of Elders: “Balasanyan” Alliance, “Civil Contract”, “Awakening”, “Republican of Armenia”, “Country to Live” factions.

It should be reminded that the “Balasanyan” Alliance and the “Civil Contract” Party signed a memorandum of cooperation on 30 October, according to which they jointly assume the responsibility of governing the city of Gyumri. According to the memorandum, Vardges Samsonyan, a representative of the “Balasanyan” Alliance, will be elected Mayor of Gyumri, and the Deputy Mayors will be from the “Civil Contract” Party.
