Garnik Antonyan was born on 19 October, 2000 in Yerevan. He was drafted to army in 2019, fought against the enemy in Martuni, Jrakan, Varanda, Hadrut, led the military operations of the 3rd platoon of Martuni-3. He fell for the sake of the Homeland on 1 November from an air strike. He was posthumously awarded the medals for “Combat Service” and “Courage”.
According to his friends, Garnik was well-developed, he loved sports, he was multi-talented, was friendly, he would certainly become one of the best citizens who should create and build, but he was also the individual in whose soul the homeland was above all, and the homeland itself guided him, so without hesitation he decided that he should become a hero and give his life for the sake of the homeland.
The relatives say that Garnik died, leaving the hope to his close relatives and friends, that with his light the country will stand up, become stronger and more powerful. Garnik celebrated his 21st birthday in heaven, and relatives and friends on earth gathered thanks to him and for him.
In memory of Garnik Antonyan, his relatives received a blessing in St. Hakob Church in Kanaker, visited his grave with candles and a march, and a fountain-opening ceremony took place in the yard of the house, which, according to Garnik’s father, is dedicated to all modern heroes.
“We wanted to build a fountain with the idea of survival in mind. With the strength, soul and idea of our hero boys, our nation must continue to live, create and develop. They fell so that we could live, having a strong homeland, becoming a nation-army and being guided by the principle of “not an inch of land to the enemy,” Garnik’s father, Armen Antonyan said.
As a sign of peace, those present released pigeons into the sky.
In the yard of the hero’s house, the military commissar spoke, bowing before all the mothers who gave birth to lionheart sons. “Sons, who protected the homeland for the cost of their blood. The land on which the blood of an Armenian soldier was shed cannot be the enemy’s.”
The principal of secondary school No. 136, where Garnik Antonyan studied, mentioned that Garnik was distinguished by his human type, modesty and a unique image of kindness. “Garnik was a bearer of noble values, national and patriotic ideas.”
Those who know Garnik, close and distant friends assure that he will continue his triumphant march there, in the skies, he will serve the homeland with his example and image, he will continue to smile and give a smile from the skies.
