An extraordinary sitting of the RA NA Council chaired by the Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan was held on 18 August.

The draft decision of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia authored by Alen Simonyan and MP Sisak Gabrielyan on 27 December, 2021 “On Making Amendments and Addenda to the Annex Approved by the Decision No. 044-L” On Approving the Procedure for Accreditation of Journalists in the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia” was discussed.

According to the main speaker Sisak Gabrielyan, the proposed changes are aimed at regulating the journalistic activity in the parliament and carrying out the coverage of the NA works at a proper level.

As a result of the changes, the journalists will carry out their professional activities in special places in the National Assembly, in the hall in front of the sitting hall, in the lobby and in the park of the National Assembly. Journalists can carry out professional activities in the offices of the deputies of the National Assembly only with the consent of the deputies.

The draft proposed to replace the requirement of up to 2,000 visits per day for Internet media with up to 5,000, but the NA President suggested leaving the item unchanged, to which council members agreed.

The decision was made by a ratio of 13 for and 4 against.

The discussion of the issue on defining the schedule of the days of convening the regular sittings of the standing committees of the National Assembly of the eighth convocation was postponed
