Today, on 17 August, the National Assembly convened an extraordinary sitting. The issue of making additions to the Law “On approving the annual and complex programs of measures for restoration, preservation, reproduction and use of the Lake Sevan ecosystem” is being discussed.

Andranik Tevanyan MP of “Armenia” faction spoke before the discussion, referring to the border situation in Armenia.

“Aliyev has toughened his position on the so-called “peace treaty”, demarcation and delimitation. He spoke the language of destructive preconditions. Aliyev demands that Armenia recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, which should include Nagorno-Karabakh. He also demands the zeroing of Armenian troops in Artsakh and threatens with a new war.

He also uses the wording “Zangezur Corridor” on the topic of unblocking communications. Aliyev has gone so far in his wishes that he demands from Moscow not to supply arms to Armenia, which has come to terms with its own defeat. This aggressive behavior of Azerbaijan does not issue from the trilateral statements of 9 November and 11 January. Unfortunately, official Yerevan has not yet responded to Aliyev’s statements, which is at least puzzling. Let us hope that in this case silence is not a sign of agreement. Aliyev perhaps assessed Yerevan’s silent behavior as a sign of weakness and launched an attack, we have victims, and our settlements are being fired upon. This is an inadmissible situation. We are striving for peace, but not at the expense of our dignity, freedom and independence,” he said.

The President of the National Assembly Alen Simonyan made the observation, noting that it is necessary to speak within the framework of the procedure, and not to make a statement.
