SJC rejects CPC’s motion to subject Ruben Vardazaryan to disciplinary liability

Today, on 26 July, the Supreme Judicial Council announced the decision on subjecting Ruben Vardazaryan, the chairman of the SJC (powers have been suspended) to disciplinary liability. The petition was filed by the Corruption Prevention Commission, which found inaccuracies in its income statement.

The decision was published by the acting chairman of the SJC Gagik Jhangiryan.

“In the open session, considering the 12 May decision and the attached documents of the Corruption Prevention Commission to apply to the SJC with a motion to apply disciplinary accountability to the Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council of the Corruption Prevention Commission Ruben Vardazaryan.” Pursuant to Article 175, Part 1, Clause 7 of the Constitution, Article 94, Part 6 of the Judicial Code, Article 154, Part 4, Clause 2 and Article 155 of the Constitution, the SJC decided to reject the motion of the Corruption Prevention Commission to apply disciplinary accountability to Vardazaryan, the chairman of the of Supreme Judicial Council.

The decision enters into force from the moment of publication, it is final. It was signed by Bekmezyan, Makyan, Mikayelyan, Mkhitaryan, Chichoyan and Kocharyan,” Jhangiryan stated.

In addition, he presented a short message related to the decision.

“The SJC emphasizes the need for the chairman and members of the board to provide clarification on property and income during the integrity check, as the Board will ultimately review the integrity of all other judges.

However, due to the violation of the relevant terms provided by law, the SJC found that it could not hold Vardazaryan accountable,” the acting chairman of the SJC said.
