On 10 June, the Armavir branch of the General Department of Criminal Police, and officers of Armavir Regional Department received information that in order to secure votes for one of the Blocs running in the 20 June snap-election, the former mayor of Armavir, who is included in the list of candidates of the Bloc, according to the previously reached agreement, is going to transfer 9 million drams to a 54-year-old resident of Janfida village in order to provide votes in favor of the same bloc participating in the elections.
Due to the measures taken by the police officers, on the same day the former mayor of Armavir and the resident of Janfida village were caught while transferring the amount of 9 million AMD electoral bribe and were brought to the department. They were arrested within the framework of the initiated criminal case.
As soon as they saw the police officers, they threw the plastic bag with the money, which was in their hands, and which was the subject of an election bribe, into the yard of the house, which was found and taken during the inspection of the scene. The circumstances are being investigated.
On the same day, a criminal case was initiated in the Armavir Region Prosecutor’s Office on the materials prepared in accordance with Article 34-154.2, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code, the preliminary investigation of which was assigned to the Armavir Regional Investigation Department.
Note: A person that is suspected or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent until his/her guilt is proved by a court judgment that has come into legal effect pursuant to the procedure determined by RA Criminal Procedure Code.
