“There is a lot of talk that Armenia applied to the Collective Security Treaty Organization without resorting to armed resistance. All those who have read at least a few paragraphs of the CSTO treaty will know that the CSTO is for overcoming the crisis without firing. It is not an organization within which one should shoot and invite others to shoot. It is an organization whose mechanisms must be used to prevent escalation, to regulate escalation through political and diplomatic means; this is the essence of the CSTO.”
Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this today, on 20 May, at the regular sitting of the Government.
“If the shooting starts within the CSTO, most likely it can turn into a big regional war, if not, in some scenarios, even a larger-scale war. In this regard, it is necessary to understand what the purpose of the Azerbaijani side’s actions was,” Nikol Pashinyan said.
He spoke about the opening of communications. “The opening of communications is as necessary for Azerbaijan as it is for the Republic of Armenia,” the Acting Prime Minister said.
