The situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border will be discussed at the sitting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers

On 17 May, the acting Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Vagharshak Harutyunyan had a telephone conversation with the Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Stanislav Zas.

The RA Ministry of Defense reported.

Vagharshak Harutyunyan presented the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, noting that despite the fact that according to the agreement reached, several groups of Azerbaijani servicemen “returned to their starting positions today, some of them are still in the territory of the Republic of Armenia.” In fact, the problem created by the Azeri provocation has not been solved.

The Armenian Defense Minister noted that taking into account the fact that the Azerbaijani military is under the full control of the Armenian units, as well as the fact that large forces are accumulated on both sides of the border, the consequences may be unpredictable if the situation is not resolved quickly.

In his turn, Stanislav Zas noted that the the CSTO are closely following the created developments, that it will be discussed in the coming days at a meeting of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers in Dushanbe.

It should be reminded that on 14 May, Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan formally addressed the incumbent President of the CSTO Collective Security Council Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan to eliminate the threat of coordinating the positions of the CSTO member states within the framework of Article 2 of the Collective Security Treaty of 15 May, 1992, to implement the mechanism for immediate initiation of emergency consultations to take action.
