On 14 May, the acting Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia Vagharshak Harutyunyan had a telephone conversation with the Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Stanislav Zas.
Vagharshak Harutyunyan presented in detail the situation in Syunik as a result of the Azeri provocation and the actions taken by the Armenian side. Emphasizing the need for a peaceful settlement of the situation, at the same time, Vagharshak Harutyunyan considered such provocations against the sovereign territories of the Republic of Armenia inadmissible, noting that they significantly endanger the already fragile peace, threatening regional security as well. The RA Minister of Defense also informed that the Republic of Armenia, in connection with the situation, has officially applied to the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
It should be reminded that Vagharshak Harutyunyan and Stanislav Zas had a telephone conversation on the evening of May 13, after which the CSTO press service issued a statement, in which, in particular, it was mentioned, “The CSTO is closely following the development of the situation in the border regions of the Syunik region of Armenia. As the situation develops, if necessary, actions will be taken, provided for by the provisions of the Collective Security Treaty and the CSTO Charter.”
