The RA Ministry of Defence informs that on 13 May, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, again with the justification of “adjustment of border”, carried out another provocation against the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia, trying to ensure positional advance in the border areas of Vardenis and Sisian.

In both cases, as a result of the actions of the RA Armed Forces, the advance was stopped, the Azerbaijani side was demanded to leave the territory immediately and return to their starting positions.

The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Armenia describes these actions taken by Azerbaijan since 12 May, as an open provocation, in order to avoid unpredictable developments, urges the armed forces of that country to return to their starting positions immediately, to refrain from encroachments on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia.

It should be reminded that according to the Ministry of Defense, yesterday, in the early morning of 12 May, the Azerbaijani armed forces, on the grounds of “adjustment of border”, tried to carry out certain work in one of the border areas of Syunik. After the measures taken by the Armenian subdivisions, the Azerbaijani military stopped that work. Negotiations are underway to resolve the situation.

The information spread in the press “about the battles in the direction of Ishkhanasar does not correspond to reality. In case of such developments, the Ministry of Defense would have been be the first to make a statement. We urge to refrain from publishing unverified, especially panic-spreading information.”

Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed the issue today, May 13, before the regular government sitting, noting ․ “There is no significant change in the situation, the situation remains the same. What does it mean? This means that there are Azerbaijani soldiers near Sev Lich (Black Lake), there is also a large number of our soldiers. But I want to say that the situation has not come to a military escalation, that is, there is no shootout, as work has been underway since yesterday to withdraw Azeri soldiers from the area.”
