These days, the borders in the Syunik sector are being adjusted, or rather the RA Armed Forces, the border guards are stationed on the internationally recognized borders of Armenia.

RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said this in his message today, on 19 December.

“Of course, this brings certain changes in a familiar environment, creates certain complications and inconveniences. Most of all, it creates emotions and even assessments are voiced that what is happening surrenders to Syunik or threatens the loss of Syunik. The reality, however, is the exact opposite, all this is done to guarantee the security of Syunik, to strengthen the guarantees.

How? The problem is that in the parts outside the internationally recognized borders of the Republic of Armenia there was a possibility of resumption of hostilities in recent days, a high probability and if that escalation took place in the mentioned part, it could be transferred to Syunik region, the territory of the Republic of Armenia, with the ensuing consequences.

And today, being located on our internationally recognized borders, we create a new guarantee of security for Syunik, because today’s border is already the border of the security system of which we are a member, where completely different security rules apply.

Today, the Russian border troops and other forces are already fully involved in Syunik; this is a completely new security situation. Of course, in terms of all this, there may be transport and logistical difficulties, the uninterrupted operation of some of our roads may be difficult, but these are solvable issues, we make efforts in their direction, including through having a trilateral document. I am going to go to Syunik region, get acquainted with the situation on the spot and allay all the fears of the people of Syunik, and I am sure I will be able to do that, especially during the discussions in a mysterious format.

Now, however, I want to repeat. Not a millimeter of land was ceded from the territory of Syunik region, just as not a single millimeter of land was ceded from the whole territory of the Republic of Armenia. You can be sure of this. The claim that it claims the opposite does not correspond to reality,” Pashinyan said.
