Khtsaberd and Hin Tagher must remain under the control of our forces. There are victims in the area: Prime Minister

We have had the most serious escalation of the military situation since 9 November. RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said about this on his Facebook page a while ago, talking about the recent events.

“On Saturday, taking advantage of the fact that the Russian peacekeepers have not yet managed to deploy in the area, Azerbaijani special forces attacked the villages of Hin Tagher and Khtsaberd in the Hadrut region of Artsakh and took control of those settlements.

I hasten to say that there was no civilian population in that area. Six servicemen of the Artsakh Defense Army were wounded; there is information about other victims, which is being clarified. Why are they being clarified, because the place where the victims may be is inaccessible at the moment, and measures are being taken to ensure access there,” the Prime Minister said.

He noted that, as he said during yesterday’s Security Council session, a separate topic of discussion was why the Russian peacekeepers were not deployed in the areas of Khtsaberd and Hin Tagher. According to the Prime Minister, on Saturday and Sunday they have already deployed, published an updated map of their area of responsibility, which also includes these regions and adjacent areas.

“This means that Russian peacekeepers must ensure the stability of the status quo in the region, in accordance with the provisions of the 9 November statement. This means that the area must remain under the control of Armenian forces.

Azerbaijan’s actions are provocative, as well as trying to show that the Russian peacekeepers are not able to break their provocations. This was the first test for the Russian peacekeepers.
