More than 1,000 people lost at least one limb due to the Artsakh war that broke out on 27 September. These people had to stay at the hospital for at least two weeks.
“Pyunik” Armenian Association for the Disabled has been providing free rehabilitation services to people affected by the Spitak earthquake, the First Artsakh War and other humanitarian disasters since 1989.
Before the Covid-19 epidemic and the Artsakh war that broke out on September 27, thanks to tghw support of Armenians around the world, “Pyunik” was able to renovate a part of the building that was to serve disabled athletes. Unfortunately, the renovated area did not serve that purpose, as currently families, which had to leave their homes because of the war are living there
There is another section in the “Pyunik” building, where there is an opportunity to create accommodation for 36 people. Unfortunately, this 160 square meter area needs capital repairs to become habitable. The victims of the war will be discharged from hospital soon and there is a need to have rooms ready as soon as possible. “Barry” company has established a prosthetics center equipped with the latest technologies in “Pyunik” building, which is ready to support the post-war prosthetics process.
The Covid-19 epidemic and the war are an unprecedented burden for the Armenian healthcare system. This renovation program will provide opportunity to 60 amputated people to live in an adapted environment, which will alleviate some of the burden of the healthcare system.
“Pyunik” asks for support to renovate the building.
