Lawyer Artak Zeynalyan issued a statement stating: “On the protection of the rights of Armenian prisoners in the European Court:

The case of the protection of the rights of five military servicemen captured during the large-scale war against Artsakh initiated by Azerbaijan early in the morning on 27.09.2020, was submitted to the European Court. The captives are Samvel Asatryan, Albert Mikaelyan, Edik Tonoyan, Valeri Hayrapetyan and Arsen Karapetyan.

Based on the videos spread by the Azerbaijani media, the mentioned persons were identified, their family members applied to the European Court with a request to apply an urgent measure to protect the rights to be free from inhuman treatment.

The European Court has requested documented information from the Government of Azerbaijan on their whereabouts, conditions of detention and medical care. The court has set a deadline of 3 November, 2020 to provide the required information.
