Today, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas did not rule out a review of his country’s neutral position on the Karabakh issue, Mediamax reports.
During a question-and-answer session on the Karabakh issue in the Bundestag today, Gregor Gysi from the Left Party asked the minister: Whether the Federal Government continue to remain neutral from the mediating position, calling for a ceasefire and a return to negotiations, or is it ready to show solidarity with the Armenians?
In response, the German Foreign Minister said.
“Not only us, but also many other countries and international organizations are ready to play a mediating role. And such a role usually requires a certain amount of neutrality, otherwise you will not be accepted as a mediator. If the current situation continues, when Armenia has offered a ceasefire and Azerbaijan has refused, then we must ask ourselves, to what extent is it possible to continue to maintain an equally neutral position on both sides?
