Today, the judges of the Constitutional Court will elect the President and the Vice-President of the Constitutional Court.
Speaking to reporters, Judge of the Constitutional Court Arevik Petrosyan said that there are two presidential candidates, one of whom has self-nominated, the other has been nominated.
To the question whether it is true that Yervand Khundkaryan was self-nominated, Arman Dilanyan was nominated, Petrosyan responded that it was partially right.
She also referred to the rumors that she was against allowing the media to cover the session.
“It does not correspond to the reality that I was against the media coverage of the session. I was principally for the coverage, the need for public coverage, which I did not object to, but at the same time I presented my observations that due to the epidemic, the health and safety of journalists and members of the Constitutional Court and staff should be protected.” – she said, emphasizing that if there is not any restriction, all media outlets should participate.
Arevik Petrosyan did not provide any other details; the sitting is still going on.
Notably, on 15 September the National Assembly elected 3 new judges of the Constitutional Court, Yervand Khundkaryan, Edgar Shatiryan and Arthur Vagharshyan. Thus, the vacancies of judges in the Constitutional Court were filled and one of the 9 judges must be elected President of the Constitutional Court.
