The Urban Development Committee has submitted for public discussion the draft construction norms “HHSHN 20.04-” Earthquake-resistant construction. Design norms”.
By the order of the Chairman of the Urban Development Committee, the necessity of elaborating the draft construction norms is conditioned by the change of the seismic hazard zoning map of the territory of the Republic of Armenia, as well as the need for modernization in line with internationally accepted principles, harmonization of international and European norms and standards.
The justification of the draft states that in 1988, based on the results of the post-Spitak earthquake analysis, national norms for seismic construction were developed in 1994, HSHN II-2.02-94, replacing the norms of the former USSR SNIP II-7-81* norms. The mentioned norms were supplemented in 1998, including the sections related to transport and hydraulic structures, and were revised in 2006, leaving unchanged the seismic hazard zoning map of the Republic of Armenia, which was an integral part of the norms, compiled in 1994.
