It is good that such an Idea has arisen and the Judiciary is not in a Swamp: SJC Member Grigor Bekmezyan about the Possibility of having a Supreme Court

Answering a question from Iravaban.net on 16 May, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said that one of the topics of discussion at the Constitutional Reform Commission now is the abolition of the institution of the Constitutional Court and the option of having a Supreme Court instead.

Grigor Bekmezyan, a member of the Supreme Judicial Council, said that now it is difficult to answer what impact it will have on the judiciary. “In a very short period of time, until 1998, we had the Supreme Court, when the Constitution came into force in 1995, and changes took place. It is a matter of choice. I always think that bodies can work effectively. If the bodies work effectively, it doesn’t matter if we have only the Supreme Court or the Constitutional Court and the Court of Cassation, each of them has its own functions,” the member of the SJC said.

According to Grigor Bekmezyan, it is good that such an idea has arisen, the judicial system is not in a swamp, any idea has a place for discussion to reveal the negative and positive sides and to make the right decision.
