In Emergency Situations, the Number of Applications, Complaints and Inquiries to the Ombudsman exceeds the Number in Ordinary Circumstances

Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan has issued a statement saying:

“In a state of emergency, the number of applications, complaints and inquiries to the Human Rights Defender significantly exceeds the number of applications and complaints under ordinary circumstances. This is also the case when staff work in an emergency mode, not all employees being physically present in the workplace.

I personally, as well as my staff, work 24 hours a day with maximum opportunities.

The questions we are asked during the day are many: 1) issues of entering or leaving Armenia, 2) issues of not receiving salaries, 3) vacations, 4) human rights in closed institutions (penitentiaries, psychiatric hospitals, etc.), 5) isolation or complaints from persons deprived of their ability to pay for utilities (water, gas, and electricity) and restored supplies, etc. Improvements to legislative acts are also being carried out extensively.

I must especially mention that I am in constant contact with the RA Commandant, and my staff works effectively with the Commandant’s Office. There is also permanent contact with other bodies.

We will cover in more detail the work we have done since early morning.”
