On March 4, the Draft on Making Amendments and Addenda to the Constitutional Law of the RA Judicial Code is being debated at the sitting of the National Assembly.

The main speaker in the National Assembly is Justice Minister Rustam Badasyan, who noted that the draft has been subject to wide public debate.

“As a result of the adoption of the draft law, it is expected to improve the legislative toolkit for removing illicitly generated property from economic circulation. The envisaged legal mechanism allows for the seizure of property, the acquisition of which, in substantial amounts provided for by the draft, is not justified by sources of legitimate income. There is a presumption of illicit origin in relation to such property, which can be refuted by the respondent by providing evidence justifying the acquisition of the property,” the Minister said, presenting the expected changes to the draft.

He also noted that the draft law introduces a mechanism for confiscation of unjustified enrichment.
