Interrogation cannot take place on 30 December: Hrayr Tovmasyan’s Defender

The defense group of The President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia Hrayr Tovmasyan filed a motion with the Special Investigation Service to postpone the December 30 interrogation.  Iravaban.net learned this from advocate Amram Makinyan, member of the CC President’s defense group.

“The interrogation of the President of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan scheduled today at 10:30 am cannot take place due to the fact that member of the defense group Mihran Poghosyan is on vacation and is out of the republic, and I have scheduled court hearings. We petitioned to postpone the investigation action with Mr. Tovasyan and to appoint it after the New Year holidays,” the lawyer explained.

Notably, according to the decision of the Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan, on 27 December an indictment was filed against the President of the Constitutional Court. On the same day, investigators questioned Hrayr Tovmasyan at the Constitutional Court, further invited him to the SIS on 30 December. Tovmasyan was charged under 308 (2) of the RA Criminal Code (abuse of official authority, which negligently caused grave consequences). Tovmasyan does not accept the charge against him, describing it as political pressure on the Constitutional Court.
