On 20 December, the Supreme Judicial Council, examining the Acting Prosecutor General’s motions on giving consent to the prosecution and detention of Samvel Uzunyan, the former Chairman of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Avan and Nor Nork Administrative Districts of Yerevan,decided to approve motions on criminal prosecution and deprivation of liberty of samvel Uzunyan..

On 8 February, 2016, Samvel Uzunyan, President of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Avan and Nor Nork Administrative Districts of Yerevan, submitted his resignation.

Uzunyan was born in 1954 in Yerevan.

From 1971 to 1981 he studied at YSU Faculty of History and Law.

From 1973 to 1975 he served in the Soviet Army.

From 1976 to 1982 he worked in the department of assembly management in Yerevan as an assembly-specialist.

From 1982 to 1994 he served in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

From 1994 to 1996 he worked in the RA Prosecutor’s Office.

From 1996 to 2004 he worked as a judge in the Court of First Instance of Malatia-Sebastia of Shahumyan District of Yerevan.

In 2004 he was appointed Chairman of the Court of General Jurisdiction of Avan and Nor Nork administrative districts of Yerevan.
