Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said he had nominated Styopa Safaryan “Mr. Safaryan has been engaged in public policy activity in the Republic of Armenia for many years and I think that in his new status he will be more effective for the benefit of the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Artsakh and the Armenian people,” he said.
Styopa Safaryan thanked for the trust. “This has been one of the most unexpected offers in my life I have received. It is a great honor to work for the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Artsakh, for their interests, and it is a great pleasure to work in partnership with the new Government of Armenia. I will try to provide one of those bridges to the government and the public that depends on me and to the best of my potential. We do not pretend to be the only bridge, fortunately there are many, especially after the revolution. We promise to bring the voice of the public to the government, all our partners, to reach them to you, to be helpful with advice and useful with our public service,” Styopa Safaryan said.
Nikol Pashinyan mentioned that the Public Council is not in very good condition that he should assume the position. “Since the first day of its creation, the question of the expediency and right of existence of the Public Council has always been in question, and let’s just admit that there has been a lot of discussion in the opposition and the government lately. In fact, the mission of the new Chairman of the Public Council will be very difficult. I mean, since its creation it has had one president, you are the second president. It is a difficult task for you, this is, in fact, the last chance for the Public Council to prove that it, as a government advisory body, can truly be effective,” the Prime Minister said.
Notably, Daniel Ioannisyan and Albert Stepanyan were included in the Public Council at the previous meeting of the Government.
Earlier, Babken Pipoyan and Karen Zadoyan had resigned, and on November 13, Vazgen Manukyan, Chairman of the Public Council, resigned.
