As a result of large-scale operative investigative measures undertaken by the staff of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia in the framework of anti-corruption activities, on 4 December 2019, the RA Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport was arrested on suspicion of receiving a particularly large bribe, his driver and the president of one of the football clubs operating in Armenia, who is also a de facto supplier of several companies have been arrested as well.

According to the preliminary data obtained, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, assisting the aforementioned economic operator in the competitions for the procurement of sportswear and sports equipment for the needs of the entities subordinated to the Ministry, agreed to receive a particularly large amount of bribes with the assistance of the driver.
Immediately after the transfer of part of the money by the economic operator to the Deputy Minister’s driver they were caught.
The materials prepared for the alleged crime were transferred to the RA NSS Investigation Department.
Note: A person that is suspected or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent until his/her guilt is proved by a court judgment that has come into legal effect pursuant to the procedure determined by RA Criminal Procedure Code.
