Who will be held responsible if the CPC fails? Arman Babajanyan to Edgar Shatiryan

The issue of electing the members of the Corruption Prevention Committee is being discussed at the National Assembly today, November 18.

Edgar Shatiryan, a candidate for the CPC, is nominated by the NA “My Step” faction, has been working in the Commission on Ethics of High-Ranking Officials of Armenia since 2015.

Answering MP Arman Babajanyan’s question about who will be held responsible if the Corruption Prevention Committee fails, Edgar Shatiryan said, “God forbid that!”

Referring to the withdrawal of the Competition Board from the Corruption Prevention Committee, Shatiryan said: “Even under these conditions, if a competitive Competition Board was formed, it cannot be asserted that the process would be de-politicized at all. In all cases the fact is that the CPC is an autonomous body, therefore its members are appointed by the political body, the NA. This provision is a reflection of Article 122 of the Constitution and in this respect; I think there should be no doubts, and/or fears.”

He also added that he envisions close cooperation with civil society institutions.
