Ms Gayane Melkom Melkomyan, a member of the Council of the Elders of Yerevan \, has proposed to allocate money to set up small community eco-education schools to be included in the 2020 draft budget.
“After my visit to Germany in the spring, I decided to come up with a recommendation to create such small community-based eco-education schools as I have seen there. In these schools, young children learn the principles of a healthy and sustainable relationship with nature. For example, they learn how to sort and recycle waste through practical work. I believe you will agree that we need it, in Yerevan and in Armenia in general.
I am very pleased that my proposal, with the support of my colleagues and similar ideas, has been incorporated into the 2020 budget project as a pilot project with the establishment of a classroom equipped with eco-educated teachers in each school district of Yerevan (the curriculum is still being developed),” she said.
The Council member noted that if the proposal is approved by the Council of the Elders, and is effectively implemented in 2020, it will be a promising and positive thing.
