The Regular Meeting of the MSG on the First International Ratification of EITI in Armenia was held

The Regular Meeting of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITN) Multi-stakeholder Group (MIG) took place at the GIZ office on 7 November.

This year, the Republic of Armenia will have to undergo the first international ratification of the EITN. Lyydia Kilpi, EITN’s International Secretariat Validation Manager to support the EITI’s quality assurance process and the Validation Committee and Olesia Tolochko, Country Coordinator of the EITN International Secretariat presented the procedure for ratification of the EITN at the meeting.

According to the ratification procedure, an assessment of the implementation of the initiative’s requirements in the Republic of Armenia over the past 3 years will be given, as well as the country’s progress in meeting all the requirements of the EITI standard. Based on the ratification assessment, the EITI International Council will confirm the country’s progress (status).

Lyydia Kilpi and Olesia Tolochko also presented the new requirements for the EITN 2019 Standard.

It should be noted that the first international ratification process of EITI in Armenia started on 9 September of this year. These days, independent raters have met with representatives of the multi-stakeholder group, as well as individual factions, as well as, government agencies, stakeholders, civil society outside the faction and the media. They worked with the independent administrator of the EITN report as well.

The EITN Multi-stakeholder meeting was organized within the framework of the project “Support the implementation of the Global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) in Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine” implemented by German Development Cooperation via Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ).
