Gagik Harutyunyan does not exclude the creation of a Court on Corruption Cases in Armenia

Gagik Harutyunyan does not exclude the creation of a Court on Corruption Cases in Armenia. Gagik Harutyunyan, Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council said this in response of the question of Iravaban.net’s journalist during the reception held today, on 10 April, on the occasion of one year activities of the SJC.

“I am a member of the Vatican Commission and was present at the discussion of the law of Ukraine on the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court. I am familiar with the law, the solutions. There were different approaches and I was there as a commission member, I was for the creation of such a court,” he said.

According to Gagik Harutyunyan, there are questions that need to be solved in time, and if the existing mechanisms do not give such opportunities, the existing mechanisms should be changed. He pointed out that 3 judges have been arrested on corruption charges in Armenia.

“The arrest was chosen as a means of restraint, and subsequently a pledge or a signature, not to leave was chosen as measure of restraint. Today, the judicial process has not started yet. Those judges are sitting at home, and simply receiving the judge’s salary when there is almost an explosive situation in these courts. If the original examination starts in the first instance, then it will go to the court of appeal and then to the court of cassation, then return to the court of appeal and then again to the first instance court, because they also do not have any interest to speed up the investigation of such cases.”

He also mentioned that he raised a question why a judge charged with corruption should be receive the judge’s salary.
