Transparency International has published the 2018 Corruption Perceptions Index.

Ms Syuzanna Soghomonyan, Member of the Armenian Lawyers’ Association, Anti-Corruption Expert in the interview with Iavaban.net, told that Armenia is 105th with 35 points among 180 countries.

“Armenia’s scores remain the same as in the previous years, with slight change in the place merely. In 2017, Armenia was on the 107th place with 35 points, and in 2016 – in the 113th place with 33 points.

Denmark and New Zealand share the third place with Finland, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, among the countries with full democracy” she said.

According to the report, Azerbaijan has recorded a sharp decrease. In 2017 the country was on the 122 place with 31 points. This year it dropped 6 points, and is on the 152nd place with 25 points.

Ukraine has an increase of two points; in 2017 it had 30 points, and was on the 130th place, and in 2018, the country is on the 120th place with 32 points.

“Armenia’s indexes once again reaffirm the fact that the fight against corruption should not be implemented step-by-step. It requires a systematic approach and a complete investment of the key instruments. And this process should not avoid the anti-corruption education that will have a direct impact on raising public perceptions of corruption,” Susanna Soghomonyan said.
